ABSTRACT
This research deals with the factors influencing and effect of examination malpractices in Nigeria tertiary Institutions. Federal Polytechnic Ilaro was used as a case study Survey research design was adopted for the study and with the aid of convenient sampling method, the researcher selected Fifty (50) participant who are Student of Federal Polytechnic Ilaro was selected as the respondent of the study. Well structured questionnaire was issued to the respondent of which all responses were retrieved and validated for the study. Data was analyzed in frequencies and tables using simple percentage, Mean and standard deviation. Findings showed that the following factors were responsible for examination malpractices: Lack of preparedness, emotional stress, fear of failure , over emphasis in certificate by the society etc. appropriate recommendation were given such as enlightenment campaign that will highlight the consequences of examination malpractices. However, pending the provision of adequate hall and seats for examinations, adequate number of invigilators should be assigned to examination room and more so for the many examination offenders now and the few that would still violate even after self-discipline has been enshrined in the long run, appropriate sanctions should be applied. The Campaign should be mounted and sustained at all levels through the use of modern and traditional mass communication gadgets.
